this is a very interesting video about the problems facing our economy and society as we move into the new century, among them our dependence on oil, our automobile-dependent way of life, urban design, etc. it's an interview with James Howard Kunstler, author of the long emergency - surviving catastrophies of the 21st century, editor at rolling stone and writer for the new york times. i recognized him as the pessimist from "the end of suburbia", a great little documentary done by brant local barry silverthorn, but he's much more balanced it seems in this discussion for the massachusetts school of law "books of our time" show.

i'm now playing this game called cyber nations. its kind of like nationstates, which i've talked about before, only instead of focusing on policy choices as much, this game incorporates google maps, trade and war into the game for some much more interesting and varied gameplay. and its still just getting going! my nation is "octavium".

essentially this is all part of my grand ploy to procrastinate on my electoral reform thesis. i'll acknowledge that. come play with me!

Man, I really like the CDs I got from Amazon: Modest Mouse (which I already knew I'd like), Broken Social Scene, Built to Spill, and The Walkmen. I'm too lazy to write out the titles too. Each of them is really excellent!

Today I packed for Toronto. All day packed. Autumn came over and was bored while I hummed and hawwwwed over what to put in the boxes. Poor girl. She puts up with a lot. But the apartment is looking cool. I still need to get a couch or loveseat or something for it though. I'm wondering if a couch will fit in our van though. Could be dangerous. Wait, no... could be dangeresque!
